7 Tips for Taking Great Vacation Photos of Your Kids
Vacatons are great opportunities for family portraits. But if you can’t hire a photographer to meet you on location then be sure to still take advantage of those picture perfect settings with a DIY Family Portrait.
If you’re traveling with extended family or friends then make them your volunteer photographer for the day. Set up your shot the way you normally would with your family ready to go with a spot waiting for you. Snap a quick shot to show your ‘volunteer’ exactly how you would like it composed, then hand over the camera and jump in the picture.
But if that’s not an option then a good tripod will also come in handy. I’m a big fan of my gorillapod for on-the-go family selfies. All you need to do is locate the self timer on your camera, which is a feature most point and shoot cameras will have, and compose your picture with your family set up the way you want them, then jump into place while the timer counts down and don’t forget to say cheese. Voila!
Okay, it’s never that simple, especially with kids, but do this a few times and you’re bound to get something useable. In my family DIY portraits I’ve all but given up on getting everyone to look at the camera – it’s not worth the stress and tears. This time around I didn’t even care if their backs were turned to the camera, showing off their inner super hero.
