Mother’s day is wonderful time to celebrate motherhood, both new and seasoned. I love to see new mamas celebrating their first mother’s day as a mommy. It’s the perfect time to reflect on the fact that your life has changed in a very special way.
But as the years go by it can become easy for Mother’s Day to become just another Hallmark holiday. Here are a few tips to help make the day your own:
- Sign up for a race. Okay this might only be good for avid runners (or other forms of racing) but I like this one because I never feel guilty signing up for a race on Mother’s Day. No one can be mad at me or make me feel guilty for taking a day to myself to run. Because it’s Mother’s Day, so there.
- Get a mani-pedi. So maybe running’s not your thing, no worries, instead spend the day getting pampered. I like this one because you can make it less selfless by inviting along another mom. Maybe even your mom! Again, you can’t be made to feel guilty for leaving your husband and children at home to treat your own mom on Mother’s Day, right?
- Spend the day with your kids. What?? Okay maybe not.
- Spend breakfast with your kids (made by dad) then go shopping, or to movies, or…. you get the point.
- Take Pictures of your family. Okay this one is definitely my favorite. If you love to take pictures like I do, and you’re family moans every time you pick up the camera, then take full advantage of Mother’s Day. It’s the one guilt free day you get to take family pictures and it’s dad’s responsibility to make sure everyone is smiling.
Better yet, scrap all of those and instead schedule a portrait session with your favorite family photographer. Mommy and me portraits make the perfect Mother’s Day gift for not only you but your whole family. You can also gift them to your own mom and mother-in-law. It’s the ultimate guilt free gift that keeps on giving.
