I have music playing in the studio at all times. I definitely find it inspirational and I think it helps put clients at ease. If it’s around the holidays you’ll hear a lot of Pentatonix, and pretty much every other day you’ll hear anything from Third Day to Meghan Trainor. I love music that make people feel something inside. Songs can help people connect spiritually or give them a confidence boost to “rock” their portraits. But since my studio often has children in it I like to make sure my playlists are tailored for their innocent little hearts.
That’s how Ruth B.’s Lost Boy came to be a studio favorite. It resonated deeply with me as a mom of two young boys. I’d clean, and beautifully written and is a wonderful tribute to a classic childhood tale. I’ve always loved Peter Pan growing up and I enjoy reading it and watching all the fun Peter Pan inspired movies with my kids, and I felt it needed a place in our line of creative portraits. The somberness of the song “Lost Boy” was a perfect reflection of how I thought Peter Pan should be portrayed.
Wanting to put the music to the photo story I shot, I asked a dear friend with an amazing talent for music to cover the song for me, which she did so beautifully, and my “Lost Boy” project came to life.
