“What do you do with babies in the snow?”
I was jokingly asked this question after telling a friend to be sure to get her little ones outside on this first snow day of the year. My response? You set them down in the snow, snap a few pictures, bring them back inside and spend the rest of the day posting pictures of how much your babies love the snow, lol. I was being silly but it’s really not that far from the truth.
When my kids were babies I remember spending way more time getting them dressed and ready for the snow than the time we actually spent outside in the snow. But the pictures and the memories made it all worth it. When we look through our photo albums we don’t think about the headache of getting dressed for the cold weather, all we see is the experience of enjoying a snow day together, and the smiles and the giggles and the feeling of catching a snowflake on your nose or your tongue for the first time.
Now that my kids are older I still have to remind myself that the effort to fish out last years snow suites and boots, which probably won’t fit half the kids, is worth the twenty minutes they might spend in the snow, because I will have my camera in hand and in a year or two we will look at these pictures and think about how much they have grown since the last snow day, and man, look how much fun they used to have snowball fighting.
