I often forget to let my kids play in the rain. In theory, it sounds like such a fun thing to do. When I put on my cool mom hat and think about all the fun things I’m gonna let my kids do, jumping in rain puddles is right up there at the top of the list. But in reality, we’re usually running late to some appointment or another when I notice it’s raining outside. Dealing with muddy pants and wet clothes doesn’t always seem so cool when you have 10 minutes to make lunch before heading back out the door. So playing in the rain – as simple as it sounds like it should be, gets put on the back burner time after time (along with making mud pies, digging in the sand box and painting — yes even painting has been nixed in my house… how sad is that!)
So, when mother nature decides to grace the Northern Virginia are with almost three weeks of constant rain – I take that as a hint. Just let them play in the rain!
