This season of my life has been pretty busy, which is just how I happen to like it (most days). I do get bummed out though when the busyness keeps me from piling my kiddos into the studio and taking fun holiday portraits. We typically do something fun for fourth of July – (okay, fun for me), but this year the summer has completely taken me by surprise and instead of driving my family photo crazy we could go to the movies and bbq instead. Am I not a great mom? Don’t worry, I’ll get back to torturing them soon enough.
That doesn’t mean I’ll let the occasion pass by altogether without recognition. So I’ve dived deep into the dark pit of my hard drive history and found this gem that never got it’s chance to shine in the light of day. What a shame, because it’s pretty awesome, in my humble opinion. And it’s got me thinking… how many images do I have from the years gone by that have never been seen by anyone but me? I did a quick audit of my current image database and there are 283,659 images dating back to 2006. I can guarantee you the majority of them aren’t gems, but they are my history and it’s holidays like this that I love because it reminds me to take a break from the busy life, spend time with my family, and reflect back on where I’ve come from and where I’m headed. We are blessed to have the freedom to work, take breaks when we need them, worship freely, speak our minds, have opinions, be creative and share our thoughts with the world. We’re blessed everyday by God and those who have fought for our right to live free. Happy Fourth of July!
Now the Lord is the Spirit,
and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
